ABOUT: The Cyrus Wong-Weissman Music Fund is a charitable initiative established to honor the legacy of local musician Cyrus Wong-Weissman by supporting the next generation of musical talent in Northern Mendocino and Humboldt Counties. The fund officially launches its application process for youth financial assistance in 2026.
Strategic Partnerships
The fund operates through a collaborative partnership between local and regional organizations to ensure broad community impact:
- Humboldt Area Foundation (HAF): HAF serves as the fiscal sponsor and administrative home for the fund. It manages all financial contributions, ensuring they are tax-deductible and securely held for long-term sustainability.
- Mateel Community Center: The fund works in close conjunction with the Mateel Community Center to handle the distribution of grants. This partnership leverages the center’s deep ties to the local arts scene to reach youth who need support for instruments, lessons, or music camps.
- Community Events: The fund is bolstered by partnerships with local venues and event organizers, such as the upcoming “Something Special – Villaintines Day” fundraiser at Stone Junction on February 13, 2026, which features local artists and a silent auction to benefit the scholarship.
