Fiber Arts Workshops at Garden of Beadin’

The Garden of Beadin’ will be hosting a series of immersive workshops guided by Abi of @wherethe_pinesgrow.

This workshop will explore coiled basketry traditions practiced across cultures in the U.S. and around the world. Participants will learn the fundamentals of sustainable pine needle collection, as well as proper cleaning and preparation techniques.

Abi will guide you through the process of creating a coiled pine needle basket using raffia as the binding fiber, with opportunities to experiment with materials such as raffia, artificial sinew, and waxed thread. You’ll also learn two different coiling techniques, allowing you to discover the rhythm and style that feels most natural to you.

Everyone will leave with a new weaving skill and a deeper appreciation for the artistry and tradition behind coiled basketry.
