Community Walk and Observation!
September 2, 2019 @ 11:30 am - 2:30 pm
REDWAY IS PLANNING SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS FOR WALKING AND BIKING, AND THE WHOLE COMMUNITY IS INVITED!
The Redwoods Rural Health Center, County of Humboldt and Redwood Community Action Agency will hold a community walk and observation within Redway to share ideas and concerns to improve walking, biking, skating and using mobility devices/ wheelchairs in Redway. The event will bring together residents, County officials, business leaders, and transportation experts to experience the challenges of navigating Redway without a personal vehicle, focusing on Redwood Drive and Redway Drive between “downtown” and the health center. A walkability assessment can be a helpful tool to gather community input, share safety concerns on the ground with decision-makers, and can help lead to future funding for improvements.
The Redway Community Walk and Observation will be held on Wednesday, October 2nd from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. At 11:30 am, participants will gather at the Mateel Community Center (59 Rusk Lane) to learn about the project, establish a shared understanding of what to look for, and talk about safety precautions during the walk and the walking route. Those participating in the walk will leave from the Mateel, returning at about 1:15 pm. During the last hour of the event, people will have a chance to share what they observed on the walk, document their concerns and hear about the next steps. Those who cannot be present for the introduction and the walk are welcomed at 1:15 pm when the group is back at the Mateel to share their concerns about walking, bicycling and using mobility devices in Redway. The event will end promptly at 2:30 pm. Coffee and snacks will be available, and all ages are welcomed with direct parent or guardian supervision.
After the walk, the project team will develop a report with recommendations that can be used for seeking funding and advancing the community’s goals to improve safety and walkability. All Redway community members and stakeholders are warmly welcomed to participate. For those who cannot attend the walk event, an online survey is available to provide input at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RedwaySurvey
