North Coast Growers’ Association/Southern Humboldt Farmers’ Markets
Last fall the Southern Humboldt Farmers’ Market group merged with the North Coast Growers’ Association. The NCGA now manages most of the certified farmers’ markets in the county, most notably the Arcata market which runs year round and is one of the oldest certified markets in California having operated since the 1970s. Certified markets were established to promote direct marketing from local farm to consumer's table. All our farmers are located in Humboldt County and only sell that which they have grown, raised and/or produced. Certified markets help support the sustainability of the small family farm by giving the farmer an opportunity to sell direct to the consumer at fair market value. The consumer is guaranteed to find the freshest seasonal fruits, vegetables, local honey, 100% grass fed beef, locally raised pork, lamb, pasture-raised chicken, free range eggs, mushrooms, flowers, herbs, trees, and bedding plants direct from the producer.
All our farmers’ markets gladly accept CalFresh/EBT benefits, and we are pleased to share that the new Pandemic-EBT (P-EBT) cards are also welcome. The Market Match program is also available to make fresh food affordable by providing a dollar-for-dollar match of up to $10 on EBT purchases to be spent on more fruits and vegetables. Ask your local farmers’ market manager for more information about how this program works or to learn about how you and your household can apply for CalFresh benefits.
