The Garberville Veterans Association is a non-political group formed as an out growth of the house committee. It houses the GVA Honor Guard, it produces the annual Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations and acts as a clearing house for the various veteran organizations. Its primary function is care, management and rental of the John Haynes Memorial Veterans Hall.

The GVA Ceremonial Honor Guard freely offers its time and services to families who request attendance at the grave sites or the memorial services of deceased veterans.

The GVA solicits donations of food, gifts and labor from the community and then organizes an annual Thanksgiving feast and Christmas dinner and gift giving celebration for the underprivilaged members of the community.

It's not all work and no play. The Dreamcatchers from Community Cornerstone in Redway, challenged the Garberville Veterans to a basketball game and they trounced us.

The GVA, in service to the community, volunteers at the annual Northern California Special Olympics in the Redwoods hosted by Community Cornerstone Inc. at Founders Grove State Park. Veterans serve as buddies to handicapped participants, officiate at the various competitions and help in the barbecuing of dinner.
